Budget 2015: Millions to be hit by insurance price rises
In a surprise move the Chancellor increased the tax on general insurance premiums by more than 50pc

Millions of British households and businesses will be hit with higher insurance costs following a “stealth” tax rise announced in yesterday’s Budget.
Chancellor George Osborne revealed that the standard rate of tax paid on insurance premiums, known as Insurance Premium Tax, will rise from 6pc to 9.5pc from November 1, 2015.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) labelled this a stealth tax rise and claimed it will hit 20.1 million households with contents insurance, 19.6 million with motor insurance and 17 million with buildings insurance.
The rise will apply to all general insurance products apart from travel insurance, which already comes with a 20pc tax on premiums. Businesses will be hit alongside individuals, as the hike will apply equally to corporate insurance premiums.
The Association of British Insurers estimates that the new tax rate will add £9.48 to the average annual household insurance policy and £12.25 to the average annual comprehensive motor policy.
Driving Licence Changes - are you up to speed
From 8 June 2015, the paper counterpart to the photocard driving licence will not be valid and will no longer be issued by DVLA. The counterpart was introduced to display driving licence details that could not be included on the photocard. These details include some vehicle categories you are entitled to drive and any endorsement/penalty points.

They were very helpful and gave me the breakdown phone number and my policy number. I rang the breakdown cover company who took my details. They were very helpful and arranged the breakdown vehicle who promptly arrived at 5.05pm and very cheerfully changed my tyre for the spare in my boot and I was free to go at 5.25pm.... not even any paperwork to complete or sign... now that was an amazing service!!!
